Flood in Korea (Republic Of)
South Korea is currently experiencing its heaviest rainfall in 120 years due to unprecedented monsoon rains, causing severe flooding and widespread devastation.
At least four people have died, including victims trapped in vehicles swept away by floodwaters and crushed by collapsing walls, while over 1,000 residents in the South Chungcheong region have been evacuated. Some areas have received over 400 millimetres of rain, with record hourly rainfall in places like Seosan.
The flooding has submerged roads and buildings, forced the closure of hundreds of schools, and caused significant property damage. Authorities have issued the highest-level landslide alerts as soil saturation increases the risk of further disasters. The Korea Meteorological Administration warns that heavy rains will continue, raising concerns about flash floods and additional infrastructure damage.
