Flood in Botswana
In late February 2025, Botswana faced significant flooding following several days of sustained heavy rainfall. The resulting inundation impacted various regions, with the capital city, Gaborone, and its surrounding districts among the hardest hit.
Authorities noted that challenges related to urban drainage infrastructure may have contributed to water accumulation in some of the most affected low-lying areas.
The overflow of a local dam in Gaborone led to considerable disruptions, including damage to homes and businesses and the temporary displacement of residents. In response, officials suspended school operations and closed certain roads as precautionary measures.
To date, reports indicate that seven individuals have lost their lives.
