Earthquake in Tajikistan

A 7.2-magnitude earthquake struck Tajikistan on 07 December, the U.S. Geological Survey said. The epicenter of the earthquake was 22km from the high altitude Lake Sarez, news stations are reporting rumblings could be felt as far away as New Delhi, and the Pakistani capital, Islamabad.

Initial reports are that 2 people have been killed by rockfall, with many more being injured. Over 500 homes are believed to be affected with many more people being displaced.

Weather conditions around the Pamir mountains are hampering initial relief efforts, as helicopters are unable to reach the remote areas.
